“We engaged Jacob and Latia from Hawkins Built for what turned into a very substantial renovation of our 1950s home. The project involved essentially deconstructing the original house, extending it from around 160m² to about 230m², and reworking the site completely including removing a detached garage and rebuilding it into the front of the property. It was not a small or straightforward job, and it ran over a long period, starting with early discussions back in late 2019 before the build itself kicked off in early 2024.

 From the very beginning, Jacob stood out for his calm approach, patience, and willingness to explain things properly. He never rushed us or pushed us in a particular direction. We spent a lot of time talking through whether a major renovation actually made sense compared to a full rebuild, both financially and practically. We appreciated how open and honest Jacob was about costs, options, trade-offs, and what would and would not be good value in the long run. He helped us think through decisions rather than just saying yes to everything.

 What mattered to us was creating a home that was truly ours, not something off-the-plans or mass produced by a large building company. Jacob understood that straight away. We wanted something unique that we planned to live in for a long time, and that mindset flowed through the entire process.

 When the build finally began, the team proved to be extremely capable and well organised. All site management, fencing, safety, subcontractors, and council processes were handled properly and without us needing to chase or micromanage anything. Anyone who has dealt with councils knows how quickly things can unravel if corners are cut. Hawkins Built handled consenting and compliance seamlessly, which gave us a lot of confidence.

 Communication throughout the build was excellent. Jacob was always available or quick to come back to us if we had questions, and he made a real effort to explain what was happening in plain language. Latia was a huge part of what made the experience smooth. Her organisation, follow-up, and overall grasp of the project meant we were never passed between people or left unsure who to talk to. It felt like dealing with people who genuinely took ownership from start to finish. Steve and Corey were also heavily involved on site and consistently delivered high-quality workmanship.

 Timing was critical for us, as we needed to move out of a rental and could not afford delays. The project was completed on time, which saved us a huge amount of stress and potential cost. That alone made a big difference.

 Now, after living in the house for about 18 months, the quality really shows. The workmanship and attention to detail have held up extremely well. We have not encountered any major issues, and any minor items that did come up were handled promptly and without hassle. The house feels solid, well built, and low maintenance, which is exactly what we wanted for a long-term family home.

 We did compare Hawkins Built with other builders. While some initial quotes elsewhere looked cheaper on the surface, they were unrealistic and would almost certainly have resulted in compromises or unpleasant surprises later. Hawkins Built pricing was transparent and honest, and in hindsight, represented far better value.
